Question:

Can a non-magnet be charged without touching a magnet?

You know how you can rub a paper clip on a magnet, and charge it for a while? I heard that you can charge a non-magnetic material without touching the metal to the magnet, with certain metals. Is this true? And if it is true, could it then be used to repel/attract a magnet besides the one that charged it? How long will the magnetivity last? By the way, I‘m not talking about electrically-charged magnets, only natural magnets.Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:

If you are referring to other metals to touch a natural magnet, without any use of a passing current, then it is not possible. The metal must be made of a magnetic material (iron, cobalt or nickel) or their alloys only.
