Question:

Can aluminium foil be used as an electrode in an apple cell?

I wish to use the foil electrode with a silver electrode. My problem is that will the oxide layer of aluminium prevent it from conducting electricity? WIll it work and an electrode?

Answer:

The aluminum oxide won't stop it from conducting. They make electrical wire out of aluminum and copper both, and the oxide layer comes on aluminum in a short time exposed to the air, but the wire has been in use for decades. It will work for an electrode. In fact it might work better than Zinc since it is higher on the reactivity series of metals.
