Question:

Can anybody share with me vehicle workshop accident experiences?

I already had one myself. Bumper kissing another bumper because I forgotten to free the manual gear before starting (from wrongly-engaged 1st to Neutral). Although I had to play an unfair game of not paying for the damage (i.e. re-channel the payment), this trauma would remain forever on my mind.I'd like to know if any automotive personnel is willing to share theirs...

Maybe a little different situation, but my first job was working for a body shop, and as usually happens while waiting for my chance to bondo, grind, paint, etc. I was the grunt. One of my tasks among sweeping nonstop was to clean up the paint bench and refill the red painted thinner cans. The cans have a spring top that closes to prevent evaporation or contamination, and the can comes up to a narrow neck. While filling one from a 55 gallon barrel which had a manual barrel pump I was using, I peered into the thinner can to see how full just as it filled and sprayed both eyes with laquer thinner! I ran around like a beheaded chicken until a painter helped me to the hose which I rinsed my eyes out for an hour. I looked like I was stoned or swimming with chlorine for days!! owie. Have a laugh on that one anyway and remember above all to wear safety glasses always when working in similar stuations!
One car we had on a hoist was in for some front end work. Myself and another were working on ether side of the car when the locks on the front arms of the hoist failed. The front end came down from about 4feet up while the back end was still supported. I'm surprised one of us didn't get killed. The car ended up jammed in the hoist with some serious front end damage. After freeing the car from the hoist, this ripped open one of the passenger side doors, we sent it off to the body shop that owed us a favour. They got the car fixed and painted in about 41/2 days while we bullshitted the customer about waiting for a part. All turned out well and the hoist got fixed.
I helped a mate change an engine and there was a pipe that did not go any where so I put a pen top in it as a temp fix, the car worked and he drove it home and back to work, he was not happy with the pen top and pulled it out of the pipe and boiling water shot all over his chest. Luckily no permanent harm done but it was funny.
