Question:

Can deer hear an artificial heart valve?

I go deer hunting with my dad and he has an artificial heart valve. It isn't too loud, but I can hear it about ten feet away if it's quiet enough. Is it possible that we haven't shot any deer yet because the deer can hear the valve and know to stay away?

Answer:

I seriously doubt that the valve is the reason...even if the deer could hear it, they wouldn't know to connect the weird noise to a hunter...they'd be more likely to smell you.
I am a deer hunter as well, the deer will more than likely sense your worrying over the thoughts you are having with your dads valve, just relax out there!! Become one with nature, de-stress!! Be grateful to hear the sound of your fathers new valve on life, and be happy he is out there with you!!! These times you will hold with you when he is gone. Make the hunting trips a special time for you and dad. I wish mine were still here to enjoy the hunt with me. Just relax the deer will be there when they are ready. Pray for dad to get the Ultimate buck. Life is short.
Wow, you must have really good ears. My friend has 2 heart valves which are ball and socket type and they click really loud, but I can only hear them with a stethescope. I doubt deer can connect that click with a human.
