Question:

Can foster kids use air beds?

Soon I will be having temporary custody of my sisters three kids in two weeks and I wanted to know are air beds acceptable for the foster children? i got paid this week but i couldn't provide separate beds for them this week because I had to pay rent but I get pay two weeks from now after the court date and wanted to know can they use air beds until I get them beds.......thank you

Answer:

a bed is a bed, sure they can use them.
Because yours is a kinship placement and therefore not a typical DCFS placement, it's possible. The best thing to do is ask the social worker.
In general, a bed must be considered functional which means that it has to be a mattress, box springs and rails. Two of my sons like to sleep with the mattress directly on the floor but every time we have an inspection, we have to put it up on rails because they are not considered functional if they are not. However, I would ask. If nothing else, you can rent the beds for a few weeks from a Rent-A-Center or ask around. People have tons of toddler beds or little kids' beds just sitting in the basement or garage.
