Question:

Can I iron a 100% polyester dress?

Its a formal dress, very silky feeling and shiny. The tag says to spot clean only by a professional cleaner, but it does not say anything about ironing. The bottom is very wrinkly, but that's it. I don't have a steamer and I would rather not go out and buy one. Any suggestions?

Answer:

Put your dress on a plastic hanger, hang it in the bathroom and run the shower on hot to create steam. :-)
Place a pillowcase or towel over the fabric before you iron. This will insure the dress won't be scorched by a too-hot iron.
I'd use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric and lowest temp setting to get the job done. The cloth is any fabric as long as it's not too thinheavy t-shirt like material. I've also used old hand towels that are a bit thin. If your iron is a steam iron, couldn't you turn it vertical and steam that way? Go slow because when an iron gets cool it may spit a bit.
Yes you can still start it but you won't be able to drive it.
