Can i put a bath drain on my sump pipe to stop it from sucking in fish?

i have a sump on my 90 gallon and the pipe that sucks in water sucks in fish. i was wondering if i could put a bath drain on it so it can still suck debris but not fish. will the metal cause any problems with the fish? are there and alternative solutions?
