Question:

can i put an xbox 360 battery pack into a wired xbox 360 controller to make it wireless?

i have a spare battery pack and one of my controllers is broken, so buying the wired controller and putting a battery pack in it would be a cheaper solution (if it can be done)

Wow. A battery is not a transceiver. It will not convert a wired controller to wireless.
It's not the battery pack that makes a controller wireless, it's the internal components that do it. You can't make a wired controller wireless just by connecting a battery pack, just like you can't make it wireless just by cutting off the wire.
I'm sorry but its a tad bit more complicated than that. You need a way for the controller to communicate with the xbox. (EX: The PS3 controllers use Bluetooth to communicate). You would need to find a way to allow the controller to communicate. I am not familiar with xbox but judging by the fact that it can use wired controllers there are ports to plug controllers into the xbox (so the xbox probably doesn't have built-in wireless hardware) you will need to build a receiver that plugs into the xbox to receive the controller's signal (your wireless controller probably has one of these). I think in the end you would save more time and money buying a new wireless controller than making a jerry-rigged wireless controller. Hope this helps!
