Question:

Can I remove one of the axles on a tandem landscape trailer and use it as a single? ?

I have a tandem landscape trailer with a bent axle. I don‘t have the capital right now to replace it. Can I remove the bent front axle and use it as a single for a while? It doesn‘t carry much weight day to day.

Answer:

If it is an automatic you should check the fluid level because you may have a leak.
Yes but removing the rear axle will likely make it unstable and sway. The removal of the front will ride stable but have heavy tongue weight.
I agree with James answer. If it were mine I'd straighten or replace the axle, most alignment shops can inexpensively straighten bent trailer axles. Or - I'd rebalance it by remounting the good rear axle forward to a position half way between the original two and keep it as a single axle. I've built and repaired a lot of farm/ranch trailers.
