Question:

Can i run a silent pack 60 kva generator in an ordinary housing estate and if so can i use subsidised diesel?

i think having a back up generator at my home would be useful in case of winter power disruptions however and although the new generation generators are quiet enough to stand next to where would I stand with electricity suppliers ?

Answer:

No you cannot. You must place the generator outside the building and for that you need management or HOA approval.
No. Running a fuel-powered motor inside any building is unsafe.
We had a day long power failure last summer. The one home that had a back up generator had TV and frig running when all else using candles and batteries. They were shunned by the rest of the community because they were not suffering enough. The lack of noise would be welcome a advance. Lawyers for the power company would fight tooth and nail to prevent any ordinary citizen from getting a discount. Do you have the money to be a test case? The smell might be like living in an old time downtown enclosed bus station.
