Question:

Can I soften motorcycle tires with WD-40?

I might be buying a motorcycle that is thirty years old, and the tires are original. The tires only have 8,400 kilometers on them, and they are in great shape, but are old. Would WD-40 soften up the tires? Thanks.Sincerely,William

Answer:

You have one course of action when you buy this motorcycle. REPLACE THE TIRES. WD-40 will not soften the tires. WD-40 will make the low traction rock hard tires even more slippery. Then when you go down, your motorcycle will no longer be in great shape. If you can't afford the tires, reconsider the purchase.
They are no longer tires; they are rim protectors, good for keeping the rims off the ground while the bike is parked, nothing more. A 10-year-old tire is unsafe, let alone a 30-year-old one. Replace immediately. There is NO other option. NEVER apply ANY lubricant to tires, unless your intention is to kill the next person to ride the bike.
