Answer:

No the merged system simply collects all the exhaust gasses and ports them out in a single location. You need to attach a muffler to that (not a cat. converter since the old VW's predate that requirement). Without the muffler, the bug is REALLY loud (which will get you the wrong type of attention) and there may not be sufficient back pressure on the valves. .
Did not know that they fitted catalytic converters to aircooled VW's? Thought that eas one of the reasons that they stopped selling them in the USA. The car without a muffler will definitely not be street legal (far to noisy). Also would not advise you to run it this way unless you have a tuned exhaust system as a certain amount of back-pressure is required in the system.

Yes that is a full cheek snaffle, it is very good for teaching horses to be steered (So it would be good for training) It is especially good for x racehorses and x pacers that haven't really been trained to be steered.
