Question:

can i use a water pump to pump air?

i wanna use a water pump to pump air...but im afraid that it might burn or sth....

Answer:

Probably not...give it a try.
With much less efficiency of course, provided the proper leak profing.
No. A centrifugal type water pump wouldn't move much air, and a constant displacement type would be designed to be lubricated by water.
the pump designed for water will not work very well at all (any type of pump). its effieciecy will be very low. you will have low volume and low pressure. the pump will also be damaged, making it unsuitable to use as a water pump after its failed attempt at use as an air pump. Why dont you find an air blower? if your experimenting you can find one in every car heater system, so check out the car wreckers yard. Car heater air blowers are high volume low pressure. If you want a big unit get one out of a bus! If you want a high pressure low volume air pump you could use an old refrigerator compressor, or a standard air compressor. hope this helps..
