Question:

Can I use an attic fan WITH a ridge vent roof?

I am replacing a roof and have gotten contradictory information regarding having BOTH an attic fan with a ridge vent roofAny informed opinions would be appreciated.

Answer:

I sincerely doubt your computer is running at106 celsius or 222 degrees fahrenheit, check it againI'm sure it is fahreheitCPUs these days have mechanism that shuts them down in the event of overheating and frankly at that temperature your computer has simply launched itself to the moon, running that hot and not auto shutting down106 fahrenheit is actually 41 Celsius, which when NOT under load is pretty good for the generic specs you listedThat sounds more accurate than 222 fahrenheit, in BIOS which is not under loadThe problem when reading your temp in Bios , is it is not accurate snapshot of how temperature will respond under loadI recommend CPUID Hardware Monitor (its freeware), which will let you monitor your temp response in your OSAlso when replacing a cpu it is always a good idea replace the thermal compound, due to breakdown and possible dust the old thermal compound may not be as effectiveI thinkt he best currently on the market is some stuff called ICD7 or 24 (Innovation Cooling Diamond 7/ 24 carot) Assuming you not OCing your stock cooler should be sufficient.
I am a landlord and I hire roofersI also have installed attic ventilation fansIn my opinion this would not be the best way to go because heat risesThe attic fan is not at the top of the roof the ridge vent is, so it would be pulling air from the topI would think it would be better to install a gable vent fan insteadthis would pull cooler air in from lower and then the hot air would go out through the ridgeYou may have to cut holes for the gable fans to do this thoughIf you have soffit vents as well as the ridge vent, I personally would not put in the fan as the cooler air would enter through the soffits and hot air would exit through the ridge vent Also, the most important bit for keeping your home comfortable is adequate and properly installed insulation in the attic.
For an ice hold you need to find out how big your blocks of ice areThat determines how big the ice space must be, allow a couple of centimeters extra minimum on all sidesThe link below is to a WEST system design Salt ice freezes at a lower temperature and so will last longer than ordinary iceInsulation is the key, the thicker the better, yachties go for 150mm - offshore.
