I recently got my real estate salesperson license and know this is the career I want to pursue. However, I am currently a full-time Master's student. Does anyone know if companies would allow me to work as a part-time real estate agent?For what it's worth, I'm done with classes by noon every day and have Fridays off completely, so this would allow a significant amount of time to show houses, etc. Thanks!
My mom tried doing real estate part time with Coldwell Banker. She already had a full time job in a factory night shift and did real estate during most days/weekends. However she was unable to make money because other full time real estate agents got all the sales and she only sold enough to pay her rent for using the ColdWell Banker facility. Also they had weekly meetings that took nearly all day. After 1 year she decided it was too cut throat and stressful to do both jobs. She could not afford to quit working to focus on real estate full time yet she could not become a successful real estate agent without being 100% devoted. Maybe being a student and a real estate agent is better, but still tough I imagine.
For the most part, as a real estate agent you are going to be your own boss and will be self employed. Yes, you need to have a broker sponser you, but for the most part while they will probably have people there to help you out with questions, looking over contracts for errors, and that kind of thing, they aren't going to make you punch a time card. They won't pay you a salary. You make your pay check by helping people buy or sell their homes. If you dont do the work and go out and get the leads you won't make any money. So you can do as much or as little as you like! The biggest issue is that it can be a expensive buisness to be in. Having to pay all the fees associated with your state real estate commision along with whatever Realtor association you will need to belong to is very pricey in itself. Adding in any advertising you want to do for yourself or homes you are trying to sell the costs can build up fast! So it can be hard to be a part time real estate agent from that aspect, but it's definitely possible! Good luck!
Yes but for what, you are going to work base in commission. The real estate market is ugly,bad,and very week. alot of people working in this area did not sell homes for months. do not waste your time ,and money. try to find job in city, state,and government jobs. it's secure, much better pay...and benefits.
Just about any broker in town will let you work part time - and you should start out part time until you have enough income to be able to support yourself.
Some part time agents are successful but very few are. I think that it is very difficult to motivate yourself everyday to do the things you have to do to succeed in this business. Knocking on doors, holding open houses, calling people when you think they may be angry at you. I find that people that are able to pay their bills without putting themselves in an uncomfortable position- never do the things necessary to succeed. As far as the best company. I would look at the type of real estate I want to practice. In residential I would pick a residential real estate company. Within that I would look for the specific area I want to sell homes in and see what three or four companies are doing best there- and go interview with them. Ask them straight out what they do to help a new agent succeed. My company would not want to invest much into a part time agent.
