Question:

Can wifi signal set off my car alarm?

I have a Peugeot 206 (2000 model) and every now and then my car alarm goes off. It‘s extremely random and annoying, thankfully my car is not the only one in the area alarming for no reason. I have had it checked out and was told that there may be a short wave signal interference triggering it off. I know a few people where I live have Wifi and was wondering if the frequency from that could be triggering off my alarm. Could someone enlighten me?

Answer:

I would highly doubt it, as most WiFi routers operate on the 2.4Ghz band, which is also the same band used by various phones, microwaves, walkie talkies, etc. The 2.4Ghz frequency band is so common that it's difficult to find a spot where there is nothing in that range. More likely, your car alarm is just overly sensitive to the point where slight vibrations (such as a minor earth tremble, animal bumping into it, etc) will set it off, or the alarm itself is defective.
Was going to ask this too
