Question:

Can you burn Home heating oil in a diesel engine if in a pinch?

I am wondering if you can burn home heating oil in a diesel engine, I have a diesel generator and I am curious if I ran out of diesel say in a bad storm and couldn't get to a station for more could i but some home heating oil in it and run it with out messing things up?

Answer:

Yes. I would think you should always use home heating since it is a generator, you don't have to pay the highway taxes on it, which is the main difference.
They answer to that would be aye. although, only temporary as you said.
yes you can
diesel as far as i know is basically the same as home heating oil. diesel is a bit more refined. my uncle has been driving trucks for about 20 years now and when he was still an owner/opp. he would run home heating oil when diesel prices got high. so It will be just fine
