Question:

Can you drive a car without a engine wiring harness?

I was thinking about buying a car from someone online and they said it drives well, it has a clean title and listed all the car's features in the post's description, but also said it doesnt have a engine wiring harness. I don't know a lot about cars (just that I need one lol) so just looking for reassuring opinions. thanks

Answer:

Don't buy it. It won't be running and there is likely more wrong then just the wiring harness.
That makes no effing sense. There must be an engine wiring harness if the engine is in the car and the car runs. That car is a basket case. You do not need all the problems it has.
No car will run at all without the wring harness. No wiring harnessno electricsno starter motor, no spark, no lights etc. Sounds like the guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
If the engine wiring harness is missing, that means that the engine can't run. So it can't drive well, because it can't be driven. This is highly suspicious. Was there an electrical system melt-down? If you had electrical experience you could install a harness and then find out WHY it was removed. It is likely not something simple, or the car would be running instead of being for sale. -Engine overhaul mechanic and electrical system expert, since 1972
No. There is a reason it is missing - something that means it had serious trouble under the hood and suspicion fell on the engine harness. Even putting in a harness (a *very* expensive proposition - Nissan wanted $2000 for one for my 300ZX 20 years ago) I would bet it still would not run right. That car is completely worthless; it is a good bet it would cost more to get it running (but still in poor condition) than it would ever be worth.
