Question:

Can you have a fire in a clay bowl?

If you were to make your own large clay bowl, could you then safely use it to hold a fire?

Answer:

You really need to check the specs on the pan so you can see what temperature levels it can be exposed toTypically, most Dutch ovens and cast iron pans are safe along with most anything ceramic.
You forgot to read the instructions Again?? stick them in the oven (What 350F) if it melts.?you can use it now the junk is goneUse a vice-grips as a handle Don't leave the in the oven
They should say Oven Safe on the bottom of them.
Stainless steel without plastic handles work wellSo do cast iron skilletsCorning ware pans do well in the oven, but I don't like the performance on the stove top.
clay can and has been used in thermal situations that need to resist high heatAn example is spark plugsFollow the advise of the above answer to help the situationI just wanted to add you need to be careful of the cooling shock that will shatter glass or ceramicsSome clays like raku clay can withstand heat/cold shock while others like porcelain can't.
