Question:

Can you paint a metal exterior door?

Our front door doesnt match our house. Can you paint it? What kind of paint would you use? Our house is cream colored brick with some beige siding and garage door is painted a dark brown and our windows are white? What color should I paint it?

Answer:

Metal exterior doors SHOULD be painted to prevent rust. You can use any type of exterior paint oil or latex. I've always enjoyed a solid dark red door.
Yes, you can paint it. Go to a paint store and tell them you want an outdoor paint for metal. Paint the front door something bright and cheerful like yellow, peach or orange.
Yes, painting is the only option for metal door, I would say matt finish, weather resistant paint would be wonderful. The same brown as the garage door would be perfect I feel... Good luck
Yes you can. You'll need to strip off the old paint and probably use a primer. Then paint the new colour. Rustoleum is on of the most popular brand of outdoor metal paint. Krylon makes them as well. With the colour scheme you mentioned, you might want to try the same brown as the garage door or paint both a new colour...something more colourful like a Wedgewood Blue.
Can't help you with the color, that is a personal choice. As far as painting it, no problem. I remove all the hardware (except the hinges).I then sand it lightly, remove any rust that may be there. Just to be safe, I use an oil based primer (Rustoleum is a good choice) and then finish with an oil based paint. I know people will say latex is just as good, and it is for wood, but metal is a different story. Good luck.
