Question:

Can you recycle plastic wrapping?

like plastic bags, and the plastic packaging around food items?

Answer:

yes like wal mart bags for instance take them back to wal mart and they will reuse them/recycle them
yes you can. at the grocery store i shop at, they have a trash can for plastics. im sure that if you ask the stores in your area you would find a place. also, you can buy re-usable bags for like 99 cents and never have to use plastic!
Plastic shopping bags can be recycled. Saran wrap and zip-lock type baggies can NOT be recycled.
Depends on what your community does for recycling. In most of my city, we have curbside pickup for recycling, with no limits! Every other week, we can put out our paper, newspaper, office paper, cans, foil, household plastics, (1-7), which recently expanded to include shopping bags and plastic wrap. It just has to be clean. Cardboard, boxboard, (all those cereal boxes, granola bar boxes, etc) the only thing they dont' pick up is glass, but there are recycling bins around town that you can drop off your glass at. I'd check into what your city does for recycling and where you can take it. For the parts of the city that doesn't have curbside pickup, we can take our recyclables to those same bins, where you sort out your different mediums of recycling.
If it's wrapping like a plastic bag then don't put them in the recycling bin. With single stream recycling, they drop everything through V-belts which sorta tosses everything up with the light and flat cardboards and papers being lofted out to the sides while everything else drops through to be sorted by other means. Something really thin and flexible like plastic bags and plastic wraps just wrap themselves around the V-belts and they have to stop the whole system to pull them off the axles. The plastic bags should be returned to the supermarket where they have collection bins for them. Hint, instead of trying to pass the bags through the slot in the top of the bin, just lift the lid and dump the bags in. Those stiff disposable plastic containers often used to hold various bakery items like turnovers can go into the recycling bin but I would rinse and dry them to avoid attracting insects.
