Question:

Can you use bleach to disinfect carpet?

I have carpet in the backyard and my dogs have urinated on it badly an i was wondering if i put very little bleach in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the carpet would it change the color of the carpet?

Answer:

yes you can use bleach mixed with water without changing the colour just dont use to much be carefull might irriate the dogs skin you must rinse after
Yes, it will change the colour. Also, it 's not safe for your dogs. BTW - Why do you have carpet in your backyard? Shouldn't you have grass like normal people?
depends on what the carpet is made of. most matrials will be discolored by bleach. about the only exception I can think of off hand is olefin. it is usually used in outdoor carpets, because it is essentially plastic and nothing damages it. If your dogs urinating on the carpet hasn't discolored the carpet , bleach probably won't either
A really good disinfectant for cleaning is to put white vinegar in a spray bottle, and about 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree oil (this is sold anywhere medications are sold cheapest price is Walmart). That will disinfect the rugs and prevent them from being able to smell their spots again to repeatedly keep going on it. The stain however needs different handling. Saturate the stains with hydrogen peroxide mixed with a few drops of dish washing soap. After well saturated let it sit 1 hour. Then rinse. The stains will be gone. Then spray it with the first solution and you'll be fresh and clean again!
Yes, it will change the color of the carpet. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and saturate the carpet. I'm assuming it gets enough sunlight to dry in a few hours. Since it's in the back yard (and I'm wondering about this like the first answer), I think I would be inclined to use laundry soap and the water hose to clean it and then spray it down good with the vinegar.
