Question:

Can you use peat moss as insulation in a wall?

Okay, I'm thinking about building a house as cheap as I can and wondering about alternatives for insulationSay you pack a wall full of peat moss, how effective would this be vs conventional typesI know they use it in certain types of log houses. The heat would come from wood burning, so heating cost would not really be considered.

Answer:

If you have the typical stud cavity in the walls, (that's a wall, a four inch gap and another wall) then peat moss is not a good insulatorFirst of all it will attract and feed all sorts of bugs and insectsAlso it will retain water and create dampness, rotten wood and moldIt may be used in log houses because it's not sealed up in a hollow cavityThe best insulation would be spray in expanding foamSomething like a polyurethane foamThis may cost more but it is the best you can doAfter that, fiberglass is commonThere are also loose fill insulations such as CelluloseBest of luck
Aluminum pans are only a potential danger if you are cooking acidic foods in them, like tomatoesSo bake your lasagna in a glass or ceramic dishHeavy-duty aluminum is the best sort of pan for baking cakes and cookiesI have no idea who told you that it is unsafe to heat aluminumAluminum is perfectly safe for baked goodsI am much more worried about the coatings on the non-stick pans.
