Question:

Can you use telephone splice connectors to splice speaker wires?

I understand that telephone splice connectors are designed to splice 2 or more phone lines. But can they be used to splice speaker wires? If so, would it make a good connection?

Answer:

i have installed car stereos with scotchloks before with out any negative effects
Yes, they would make and maintain a good connection, but don't expect to run a lot of power (over 30 watts). This could eventually cause the connection to fail. These connectors are fine for small signals, as they were designed for. If you must use connectors for speaker wires, and cannot come up with a solid piece, by all means, use yellow electrical wire nuts as they will provide more dependable service than a tiny 3M connector meant for solid # 28 AWG. I hope this will help you. Happy Holidays!
