Question:

Candle wax out of carpet?

I recently had an incident with my toddler and a light candle. The wax went all over the carpet.. bright red wax, and white carpet. I have tried using a carpet cleaner and hand scrubbing it with a brush. Any ideas how to get it out? Thanks

Answer:

Put a piece of brown paper grocery bag down over the wax. Take an iron on a warm setting and set it on the paper bag. As the wax melts the paper bag will absorb the wax. Do it several times if needed, putting a new paper bag down to absorb more wax. Dont overheat the iron or it will burn the carpet. Start with the lowest setting on the iron and move up from there. Or use wax freeze in a spray can that you can spray on the wax. It freezes the wax to the point where you can break it away from the carpet carefully with a blunt knife.
when you get wax on clothing, it comes out by putting it in the freezer, then the wax just chips off, try putting ice in a bag and placing it on top of the carpet, do this for a few days, making sure the ice is always really cold, the wax should eventually chip off! I hope this helps!! :)
Place towel over hardened wax, them press the iron over the area until wax melts and sticks to the towel. Spray a little water on the wax before ironing. But the red color is another problem entirely. Once you get the wax out tho you might be able to use a cleaner on it to get the color out.
Here's what I do... Place a portion of a brown paper bag on top of the wax. Press the tip of a warm iron gently over the affected area until the wax melts and attaches to the paper. Lift the paper from the carpet. Dab a small amount of denatured alcohol onto the stain if any candle dye is left on the carpet. Sponge with water.
Pick off as much wax as possible. Use a knife if it helps. Chill the wax with ice to remove more of the excess. Move on to the next step once you can't get any more wax off without damaging the carpet. Lay a paper bag or piece of newspaper over the carpet. Use an iron on the lowest setting to heat the wax. If you don't have an iron you can use a hair dryer. When it melts, the wax will seep into the paper and away from the carpet. Change the paper as needed until all of the wax is absorbed. Apply rubbing alcohol to any areas that are stained with dye from the wax. Use a clean paper towel to wipe off the dye and wax until the towel comes off clean. Rinse the area with clean water. You can use a clean, wet rag or a spray bottle. Dry the carpet immediately to decrease the risk of staining. Use a fan to help speed up the process.
