Question:

Car alarm, Car starting question?

I have a hyundai tiburon 2003. I would like to know if the car alarm is going off, will the car NOT start?Im just asking for reassurance cuz I think this is what happened today. The keyless remote battery went dead, so I used to the key to get into the car. Mustve done something wrong, cause the car alarm went off. I got in the car, put the key in the ignition ( car alarm going off and all) and turned. NOTHING HAPPENED. I stood around calling for help for 45 minutes. Bought jumper cables that I knew i didn‘t need. Solution:Once you put the car in gear, it was a manual tranny, everything started up.IS this suppose to happen?

Answer:

I am not familiar with the Tiburon, but in general car alarms prevent the car from being started, a function known as an immobilizer. The process of using the key to open the door if the car had been locked with the remote would sure explain it. I don't know why the engine would start after being put in gear, though.
If your goal is strictly limited to hearing the intake sound just take the stock one off and run around like that. It has CAI from the factory and you will see no performance improvement with a fancy and expensive tube bolted on. So for sheer sound and nothing else just pop the existing one off.
