Question:

Car carpet replacement?

Hello! I am trying to change a carpet in my mazda protege 1996, and I am having a problem to find carpet material. I do know i can get it online a carpet that is specially made for my car but they cost like 100- 150 buck. Does anyone know if i can get carpet material in home depot if so what kind should i get. Thank you in advance:))

Answer:

The carpet you would get online is specially made for your vehicle with all its contours and cutouts. It's not some area rug you just throw down on the floor. $150 sounds very reasonable. I suppose you could take all of your carpet out and just get some bath mats or something. Assuming you could get your hands on a giant square piece of automotive carpet in the color you wanted, how would you cut it and contour it to fit properly? I think you should either buy the carpet online or try to spruce up the carpet that's in there currently.
You can not find anything that would stand up at Home Depot for your car. A few specialty carpet stores may have something. You are looking for a tight weave burbour that can handle a high heat in case the muffler gets to warm it will not burst into flames as you are sitting in traffic. I would suggest you go ahead with the online since it is probably precut and two piece where you can overlap under the front seats.
Automotive Carpet Yard
Hi okorder . But you are right about the cost. New carpeting costs around 150 to 200 bucks. Some of the places that sell car carpeting also sell carpet by the yard - you can find out about that at the truck and car floor mat website. Oh, and by the way, if you use pieces of carpeting from a store make sure they are securely attached to the floor with some kind of adhesive or tape or you could get the carpeting caught in the brake or accelerator pedal. Hope this helps. Nick
house carpet will work. just take your old carpet out but watch you don,t tear it, lay it over the house carpet and cut around it. try checking with the carpet stores. sometimes they have remnants you can get pretty cheap.
