Question:

Carpet cleaning question?

I had a bad stain on my carpet that nothing would remove. So I tried peroxide on it, and it took it out. So I was wondering if peroxide, baking soda, and things of that nature can be used in carpet cleaning machines?

Answer:

Peroxide is useful in some situations. Also, it depends upon the quality of stuff used for carpet. If it is of good quality then the color of carpet will not damage but if it's quality is poor then you may face a more big stain of color damage. So be careful!
It depends upon the stain, if your carpet has a light color you can use the hydrogen peroxide , but it is not advisable because it has a little amount of bleach. in using baking soda this will only absorb the awful smell. yet very effective.
You are lucky the peroxide worked and didn't ruin your carpeting, because peroxide usually bleaches anything it touches. I wouldn't put in in a carpet cleaning machine. I would not use baking soda in a machine either; it will gum it up. I would use manufacturer recommended cleaning solutions.
Definitely you can put peroxide, I'm not so sure about baking soda as it may be too thick and plug the machine, I guess it would depend on the mixture. Peroxide also is capable of bleaching a carpet and should be diluted to approximately 3%, and even at that it should be tested in an inconspicuous place first. hope that helps you , Good luck.
Carpet cleaning machines spray out cleaning fluid and then vacuum it (and the dirt it attracts) back into the machine. Peroxide cannot be used because it needs to be in contact with the stain for a period of time to work. You can use oxygen-based cleaners in your carpet machine, but check with the manufacturer. Some require that you use a liquid oxygen-based cleaner that's made for carpet cleaners. Hoover makes a liquid called Oxy-Gen that works quite will.
