Question:

Carpet installation........?

I am going to install some carpeting in my home and I was wondering if 2 pads could be put underneath the carpet roll instead of 1. I know they sell different 'weights' of the pad, but i wanted the thickest possible pad so that it can be very cushy. So, is it possible? I am interested in knowing what is the best option for what I am looking to do. Anyone with carpeting knowledge...

Answer:

you can not put 2 layers of padding on top of each other. for one thing it will bunch up, and it will also void your warranties from the manufacturer. try looking for a good 8 lb 7/16 inch pad. you really don't want that much bulk under the carpet, it will cause it to pop off the tack strip, thereby losing the stretch. it will also be like trying to run the vaccuum over wet grass. f you are using a berber carpeting, you want to use as firm a pad as possible.
one pad 9/16 of an inch
I recall you can one pad would be OK, or you can hire a professional carpet installer. I know a company that has provided carpet installation according to your budget.
As for thickness--One thick pad of padding will do the trick. If you put two under your carpet it will look funny. It won't be proportional to the connecting rooms.
