Question:

Casting insects in resin for jewelry purposesneed help!?

I've been trying to look for a tutorial online that teaches the proper way to encase insects in resin for jewelry and other things..they are so neat to look at! However, I cannot find a step-by-step guide on how to do so (without someone saying its cruel or some ridiculous thing). From the info I HAVE gathered, once you get your catalyst and resin mixed, you pour a thin layer and THEN place the bug downlet it dry a bitand pour the rest over??? I also read something about needing to remove the air/oxygen from inside the bug before casting so it doesn't rot? Can anyone who HAS DONE INSECTS IN RESIN please tell me your experiences and the proper way to do soand please save the animal cruelty crap for someone else..don't act like you wouldnt have killed the bug, anyways! LOL P.S.I really want to resin a black widow spiderbut I could assume that spiders may be more difficult to do given their thread-like legs. Any experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is how I have done it and I'm 16 today and decently well versed enough for my mom to have me do things that my dad says he will but never gets to: 1. Have your father teach you or friend or a friends father I'm sure some one in there knows some basics 2. Have your bathroom remodeled by a friend and work/learn from him (in the process of doing) 3. Look it up on the Internet AS NEEDED every once in a while I have that moment where I say I wonder how Then look up something and by the time I need it I forgot start with small simple things like wiring an out let but the very basic part of just connecting the the wire to the switch/outlet start with things needed like that 4. A lot of times community or county colleges have courses for people like you they tend to be 2 year schools for people who do not know what they want to do or people that need to mature before college so they do not go and don't do well because they are not ready yet (me) 5. Lowes and Home Depot live for people like you they hold work shops for YOU. They know that not every kid has had a father that worked in construction with his father than an electrician and handy man before finding a law firm some how. 6. One of my favorites YouTube come on like you didn't think of that. Just to be clear the level you need to know is how to start your lawn mower + change the blade that's the level of skill you will need to survive you don't need to know how to redo your roof just keep the handy man out for a minimal of one week always think is this some thing I can do then if it needs to be done if it doesn't but you can do it go for it. If you can't think of needs vs convince + cost. You want to be Tim Allen not bob the builder ok? There are ways to learn there are people for YOU just find them.
the best way is to just practice all the time.if you know what game you want to get better at, you just have to keep playing it as much as possible.you can also get online and look at websites and see if anyone has any tips for playing.like for halo you can see where the good sniping positions are,or where all the good guns are and how often they reappear.but the main thing is to just practice all the time.
You can buy trade books and read up on theory. Once you understand how things are installed and how they work you can diagnose and troubleshoot. Now don't expect to know everything about every trade. Some electricians have no clue how refrigeration works, and some plumbers have no clue how to build a shed. If you find a problem that needs attention, then do some research online or grab a book about the problem, and then get your hands dirty. You DO NOT have to learn an entire trade to fix a ceiling fan. Just follow the basic safety practices, gloves, glasses, test equipment, tools, and you will do fine. Another good place for info is your local hardware store. Ask questions about tools and what you will need. Ask neighbors and friends to help. Remember start small, do research on each problem one at a time, and buy tools as you need them. It will be very frustrating at first but stick together and pull the logic out of the problem and solve it. What they say in the field with new technicians like yourself is that its sink or swim time. Either you learn it or you sink. Another saying is throwing you to the wolves. Learn to fight or you will die. Good luck.
