Question:

Cat Vomit on white carpet?

My cat ate some Meow Mix Seafood flavor and got sick all over the white carpet in my appartment. Any ideas on how to get a red stain out of my white carpet... help!! my landlord is coming next week!!!

Answer:

I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot almost boiling water (from a kettle) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time, (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than try putting Dawn dishwashing liquid (4 or 5 drops into one cup of water) or carpet spotter. Dampen the spot letting it soak on the stain for about 5 minutes and repeat step one. After this you should rinse the area again with the wet vac and hot water. If this doesn’t work try using orange glo or even 409. The most important thing to do is rinse the stain with a wet vac and hot water from a kettle to remove all the reside, or the spot may come back. Please be careful with what product you uses (neutral PH carpet cleaning solution is best). Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. Carpet cleaner for 14 years
Oxyclean shoud do it. Next time, let it dry before you try to clean it up...sounds strange, but it can be more easliy scraped off dry and less gets ground into the carpet fibers than it does if you try to wipe it up while it's still wet.
Go to walmart and get some Spot Shot. It took bright red paint out of my carpets!!
Capture - you'll find it at home depot type stores where the vacuums are sold. its a dry carpet cleaning kit - follow the directions, use it on the spots first -this stuff performs miracles even on stuff like old orange soda spills on white carpet - discovered months after the stain was made.
There is some cleaner called Greased Lightning that works REALLY good on carpet stains-espescially on light/white colored carpets. I haven't had the misfortune of Seafood flavor cat vomit, but it got red marker stains out, and a multitude of others out of my carpet. Depending on the texture of the carpet, you will have to dab/blot, and maybe pour a small amount of hot water on it to dilute the stain that seeps down to the padding, then blot again. Rubbing and scrubbing should not be done unless and until you have just a faint stain left, because you will just spread the stain, and the more scrubbing you do the more it wears the carpet in that area, and it will still be noticable. They sell it in the cleaning supplies at Walmart or Family Dollar Stores, and it's less than $4 a bottle. It's also good at cleaning other surfaces, and it's even taken grease/oil stains out of my husband's jeans without discoloring them. Good stuff.
