Question:

Cement my basketball hoop into the ground?

I have an adjustable basketball hoop with a base that you fill with sand. I would like to cement this in the ground instead. Does anyone know if you can buy post extensions for installing it in the ground?

Answer:

All you have to do is get another piece of steel pipe same size and a steel coupling. You may want to tack weld it but necessary.
you need a post bigger then the hoop post.cement that in then slide the hoop over that.might need some bolts and spacers to make it center if its not an exact fit
No you cant install posts into the ground the basketball hoop isn't designed for that. The safest way is to purchase a better basketball hoop, that is designed for what you have in mind.
Permanent Basketball Hoop
I would remove the plastic base and cement the post in the ground instead. Just get a longer piece of pipe that fits over/inside the original one to give it the proper length. I believe there is a rule-of-thumb that says for every inch of diameter the pipe has you dig the hole that amount of feet. So, for a 4 diameter pipe you dig a 4' hole. As it is a basketball hoop (which will be moving) I would go larger and deeper.
