Question:

Ceramic heat emitter dome?

How do I know if my light dome is compatible with a ceramic heat emitter? Does it just need the porcelain/ceramic socket?

Answer:

Most ceramic heat elements just screw into a standard light bulb outlet, but yes you do want the ceramic socket and make sure the fixture is capable of at least 100 watts. Even if your element is a lower wattage than that those things get really hot! I made the mistake in my early reptile days of just using a standard clamp light dome and totally melted it! Be safe!
