Question:

ceramic tile over heated floor?

ceramic tile over heated floor?

Answer:

Did the same at my house. But I like to do things once. I ran a 1 inch main and then came off of that with 3/4. May sound like overkill, but, I have great pressure throughout my system and no annoying water hammer issues.
Typical would be 1/2, However, why go typical? 3/4 reducing to 1/2 just before fixtures will give you better water pressure and capacity at the fixtures.
3/4' for the main runs, then 1/2' for each service off the main. Don't forget with the 1/2 hot to use a lagged pipe so you don't lose all the heat from the hot water. You should use 3/4 lagged for the 20 ft hot to the upper story, but then break it down to 1/2. Make sure you use plenty of saddles to keep the pipe tight, or you will get hammering when the taps are turned on and off.
we have that at our house and have been living here for 7 years, its good
Ceramic is a very good conductor of heat through a flooring system. Many ways to do it and it must be done correctly. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL. GL
