Question:

Chair covers??

I am getting married this October and I'm having my reception in a banquet hall...it's very nice and of course they provide white tableclothes for their round tables but their chairs are like an ugly pinkish color...I'm wanting to get some white chair covers to cover them up and make it look more elegant. The banquet hall recommended a place that they use and I guess the people come out and steam the covers on the chairs so they aren't wrinkled and they have a display out at the hotel we are having the reception at and they are really nice but they are $6 a chair cover and I'm having over 200 guests at my wedding and I don't want to be spending that kind of money on just chair covers. Just wanted to know if any of you have ever ordered chair covers online that you can rent? I found a website where you can rent them and they are only like $1 or $2 for each chair cover, but I hate to order them and they come and are are really wrinkled and don't even look nice...any of you done this?

Answer:

I have a similar situation and my banquet hall also charges $6/chair cover. I've already included it as one of my wedding costs - but I agree it's a rip off. If you want to buy the $2 chair covers I would ask a friend to help you coordinate this on your wedding day. Keep in mind that they will probably come folded and will all need to be pressed. Decide if saving the $800 is worth ironing 200 chair covers and putting them on the chairs on your wedding day.
Its a tough dilemma. I know that typical banquet chairs can be hideous and clash with decor. At the same time, I've attended beautiful weddings without chair covers. As a guest, sometimes you just don't notice those things. Does the banquet hall have pictures from other weddings so you can get an idea of how much the uncovered banquet chairs do or don't take away from the ambiance? Those chair covers are just so darn expensive. I think it would be a lot of undue stress to have to worry about ironing and placing 200 chair covers in the few days before the reception. If you HAVE to have the covers, call a couple of local competitor vendors and try to get a better deal. Maybe you can get the spandex chair covers (those don't have to be ironed right?) and offer to pick up, drop off and apply yourself, maybe they'll knock of some $.
Things to consider: Who is going to cover all of the chairs? Who will steam them before they go on? Who will take them off? Who will take care of sending them back to the rental company? How much will you have to pay someone to do all of this? This is a huge job, and if you provide your own chair covers, you're going to have to also provide someone to put them together, and it probably won't be cheap. I would go with the place your reception site recommends. That recommendation carries a lot of weight, because they have worked together successfully in the past. At the end of the day, you are probably going to go to a lot of trouble to save very little. At the last minute (the week of my wedding) we decided to have chair covers. It really gave the room an extra pop, and I'm glad I did it. If you can afford it, go for it. It really adds a lot to the room. Good luck.
Ok what I would do is ONLY cover the bridal parties chairs with chair covers (the 6 buck ones). Then go out to a fabric store and buy a bunch of white nice fabric or white large ribbion and tie a bow around each chair of the other guests. Like take a large long piece of fabric and wrap it from the front of the back of the chair to the back of the chair and tie a pretty bow. Some of the chair will be exposed but you are covering the tops up, which is what people will notice.
$6 is too much. You might be able to find another venus on your own. If I were you, I would just put chair covers on the bridal party table and leave every one else with the chairs provided. No one is really going to care. Too much emphasis is being placed on the $ side of weddings that you end up forgetting that after a wedding, marriage begins. Good luck.
