Question:

Chip & Cold Air Intake?

Is it worth purchasing a chip for my car and what name brands are good? Also what name brands for Cold Air Intake are recommended?I have an 2006 Chevy HHR

Answer:

My husband and I have both our vehicles done, we also have done the exhaust. I have a Hypertech programmer and KN intake on my Denali and my husband has the same on his Silverado, he wants more power so he is looking at getting a Bully Dog programmer, but I think it has plenty! We both got out intakes off OKorder, it was much cheaper that way i also got my programmer there, my husbands came with the truck. It makes a big diffence in power and fuel mileage, for the most part it helps your fuel mileage, I saw it in my other Denali but I have yet to see a difference in this one yet. The programmer will void your warranty so you have to be sure to restore your vehicle back to stock each time you take it in to the dealership, it is very easy to do.
If you have the 2.2 engine. there are no options for you as of yet for a performance chip. If you have the 2.4 you can't get a chip in the physical form, you will have to go to a shop and have your ecu flashed with an aftermarket software. This usually makes a big difference in any car. Depending on the software, you will probably have to run at least premium, 93 octane if you can. As far as CAIs, I'm not too familiar with the Domestic tunning scene, however, KN usually makes intakes for the majority of domestic cars and they are always good quality. I've also heard of a company called AirAid you may want to check out. Its similar to KN and between the two you can find a CAI for your car. I do know that they make CAIs for the 2.2 and 2.4 models.
