Question:

cleaning a shag rug?

i have a shag rug in my living room and my puppy has urinated on it. My husband has done everything under the sun to get the smell out. Is there a certain way to clean the rug, a gentle way? I dont want to ruin it or have it come apart. So any help would be greatly appriciate it!!! Thanks!

Answer:

Hand Tufted rugs are hand made by skilled artisans. Weavers loop wool through a primary backing. A natural latex adhesive is then applied to the back of the rug to secure the wool loops, and a secondary coating is added for finishing. Although the process of manufacturing Hand Tufted rugs is shorter than that of a Hand Knotted rug, each rug remains a unique, handmade work of art.
It is very difficult to get out of the rug because of the type it is. An odor neutralizer is best, and consult a rug cleaning business-they will have the best advice for you. At this point, I almost think it is best to let the rug go. It is almost impossible to get it all the way out and if the dog smells it there, which he will, he will urinate on it again and again. As will any other animals that come in to mark the rug.
