Question:

Cleaning a suede sofa, stains too!?

I have recently come into possession of a really good couch. The ONLY problem being is that it has stains on it, and smells a little. Besides that, it's brand spankin' new and in nice condition (no rips or tears) / everything in tact. I've decided to make a project out of this couch, as I know that most of the time, suede can be a b17ch to clean, but honestly, my husband and I don't have the money for a new couch as all of our money is going towards getting a new car. So right now I'm looking at ways to get stains out, make the suede look nicer, if not great, and get rid of the little tangy smell. More than likely, I'll eventually get a slipcover for it, but right now, I'd like it in a decent condition :)

Answer:

Your suede couch is actually made with a micro fiber material and will be a challenge for you to clean by your self. A pro would spray a gentle upholstery cleaner on to the fabric, work it in with a soft bristle brush, and then rinse and extract the soil and cleaning solution. The entire couch must be misted down to prevent water marks from forming as the fabric dries. The last step is to wipe the entire couch down with soft, white, terry cloth towels. Be careful not to allow pets on your furniture as they will leave dirt, hair, oil, and saliva on the fabric that will make future cleanings very difficult. Pet accidents are also deadly to couches, mattresses, etc., often resulting in the affected piece being tossed.
I use a product by the name of Capture. I have been purchasing it at the Home Depot. A starter kit contains 1 container of dry cleaning powder, 1 bottle of spray and a brush. You spray the sofa with the dirt removing spray then apply the dry cleaning powder to the sofa and then brush it in. Wait about one half hour then use your vacum cleaner to remove the dry powder. If it's not clean repeat the process. It cost about $15.00 for this kit and the powder has a fresh scent and it's less expensive then having someone come in and clean your sofa fo you.
there are proffessional steam cleaning companies that offer to clean suede sofas at a reasonable price. you can try that route or look into suede conditioners and or stain removers at local furniture stores. there are special cleaners for just that material. there are stain repellents you can add as well to decrease the chance of further stains and ultimately prolongs your investment - best of luck
Not sure how bad the stains are. When I bought my suede sofa, the guy at the furniture store said the best thing to use was a cotton cloth and a bit of methylated spirits diluted with water. Seems to work. You could try it, the good news is that a bottle of metho will only sting you about $4.00
Cleaning suede stains can be a nuisance, but it is possible to remove them using supplies from your home. Here are the tips on how to clean and remove the stains from suede sofa: 1. Scrape up any substance the stain has. If it's chunky or any portion is sitting on the suede, remove as much as you can using your spoon and place it in a trash bag. 2. Dab at the stain on your suede couch using a clean sponge rinsed in cool water. Avoid rubbing as this may spread the stain. 3. Mix equal parts of water and an enzyme laundry detergent in a bowl to create a paste. 4. Use your spatula to apply the paste over the stained area on your suede couch. Allow the paste to sit for 20 to 30 minutes. 5. Remove the paste from the suede couch by scraping it up with your spatula. 6. Saturate a clean cloth with cool water and wring it out. Blot at the area where the paste was to remove your cleaner and any remnants of the stain. Let your suede couch dry completely. 7. Fluff up the nap and fibers of the suede by brushing it with a suede brush.
