Question:

Cleaning my carpet with a rental Rug Doctor?

I have to clean my carpet and an area rug. I had the rug for more than 2 years, and have been living in this carpeted apartment for 15 months. Both have never been shampooed or cleaned :#92;I live by myself, so I don't have high traffic, but I really need to clean them well.I'm o a really tight budget, and the rug doctor recommendation asks for many products at the time, id there a one good product that I can replace (Anti foam, detergent...)What would you recommend? Thanks

Answer:

E okorder . These carpet cleaners you find on this web site are certified, insured, and know what they are doing. A pro cleaning is nearly the same expense as renting a machine, purchasing the solutions, and your labor. Also, a pro's macchine is 10 times more powerful than anything you can rent, if you are talking a Bissel or Hoover, 200 times more powerful. A pro uses super hot, soft, treated water, that is impossible for you to duplicate

Ok, some crazy answers. I have my own steam cleaner (that I got from beside the dumpster lol and fixed up) It worked just fine, and it's like a $200 machine...not sure why someone threw it away.) Anyway, at first I bought the carpet cleaning crap, the $15 a bottle Hoover stuff. Then I got smart. I now use Gain (the liquid kind, of course, in any pretty scent I like!) and it works perfectly! It does not damage the carpet, and it's very low foam (has to be for washing machines). I just use the same amount that the little cup on the clean water tank asks for of the other stuff. If I'm cleaning an especially dirty spot, I will add some white vinegar into the water. Oh, and the Gain makes your house smell amazing as well!
Your best bet is to buy the spray carpet cleaner RESOLVE at the store and use your hard work and lots of old towels to get up the dirt. Cost will be under $15, that is a huge savings over the rental of the rug doctor, which by the way may not work well on an area rug. HOW TO ~ ~ vacum the areas and move the furniture. ~ spray as directed on area around 5X5 ~ let foam set for at least 5 minutes ~ using hot clear water ring out a rag until just moist and rub area to remove surface dirt. ~ take dry rag towel and rub across the area, turning until the towel no longer removes dirt and carpet is dry to the touch. ~ can do a rug in less than an hour and the results are better than the steam cleaner without the hauling around, the price and the water mess on the floors.
I use a machine I got from a garage sale. I learned a trick from some apt owners (250 apts at their site). First pretreat with Shout Use recomended soap or less. Never use more soap because if it is left in carpet it attracts dirt Rinse with a cup or so of shout in the rinse water because it cuts the foam of the soap so you can get it out. (Antifoam) Shout is my hero when it comes to carpet! Hope it helps
