Question:

cold air intake for 1990 bmw 525?

I would like to replace by existing air intake by a cold air intake performace filtercan you suggest the brand and place to buy on the internet(most economical one)

Answer:

Ebay. I know it sounds like a cheap, crappy way to go, but I've had pretty good luck getting intakes that were made for my cars. By the way, a cold air intake goes down into the fender well and draws air from near the road. Don't do that if you ever might drive on even slightly flooded roads or low water crossings. Even big puddles can cause problems. A cheap short ram intake can be had for about $30 on OKorder. It will pull air from under the hood which is maybe 1 less horsepower then a cold air, but you won't have to take your battery out to clean the filter and won't have to worry about puddles. And it sounds more aggressive because of the shorter pipe.
The stock air box is already quite good. Have you looked at it? It already has a cold air intake. There is a hose going from the air box to the grill. This box is well tuned to the engine. You aren't going to get a significant performance increase. Most of the after market parts are no better than stock. Some are worse. Louder? yes. Faster? no. You will also end up sucking filter oil into the air flow meter. Not good. If you want to make the car louder and a little faster try replaing the muffler with a streight pipe. Keep the cat converter and the resonator. Just have a muffler shop make you a custom pipe to replace the muffler.
