Question:

Cold air intake for my Monte Carlo?

I have a 2002, Monte Carlo. 3.4 V6 engine, and I cant find a KN cold air intake for it. Would an intake for a 2002 3.8 work? Or would it not give me the gains they promise? Please help!!

Answer:

Monte Carlo Cold Air Intake
The cold air intake that came standard on your car is the best for it. Aftermarket cold air intakes are relics of the 1960s and 1970s, when most engines drew air from above the engine. Cold air intakes were a significant improvement over that and in the 1980s essentially every car maker switched to cold air intakes. If you had a 1970 Monte Carlo a KN would be a noticeable improvement but on a 2002 it will only reduce your fuel economy, especially in winter.
The gains are already not as promised on the 3.8 V6. Besides, your car is too heavy to notice the minimal gains from a CAI (among other things). If you want power, you need a 3800 V6. Ideally, the supercharged one.
