Question:

Cold Air Intake Help!?

I plan on buying a AEM cold air intake kit for a 2000 toyota celica gt. When installing this how do you install a Cold Air Intake kit please give me steps please. And will I need to remove the front bumper?

Answer:

No. You don't need to remove the bumper to install a cold air intake, though you probably will need to remove the wheel well liner on one side. Cold air intakes pull air from the wheel wells. You don't need an intake on your celica it won't do anything.
(sigh.) I answer this question at least five times a week. 1) your celica HAS a cold air intake -- it's just not a metal tube. 2) installing an aluminum pipe will NOT give you 15+ hp. 3) an aluminum pipe will give you possibly 2 - 3 hp AT REDLINE -- meaning that unless you are driving with your foot planted to the floor you will get zero additional hp. 4) the engineers at Toyota can figure out how to add horse power. If bolting a piece of pipe to the intake would give their cars 15 hp don't you think they would have done it? The people that sell this things all blow smoke and distort the hp ratings, short of outright lies. If you want it for looks then go for it. If you're thinking you'll gain massive torque then forget it. PS -- these things are death to an engine if you drive through water. Even a few ounces of rain water will cause hydro lock and grenade an engine. Many insurance companies are now refusing to pay for this under comprehensive if the car is equipped with a cold air pipe.
im not a celica expert but if your purchase one they come with directions. if not remove the factory one and mock everything up. if you still cant figure it out then you shouldnt be modding your car. a CAI will not give you any more power if any, in fact it may make you have less.
