Question:

Cold Air Intake Performance Increase?

I want to buy a cold air intake for my Mitsubishi Eclipse 2001. It‘s got the 2.4 L 4 cylinder motor in it. My question is will the cold air intake give me a NOTICEABLE difference in starting off the line? Will it accelerate faster? Ten points to the best answer, I‘m in a jam and don‘t know if i should order one or not. Thanks!!

Answer:

Carefully look at your present air filter box. Usually the air intake snorkel for the air cleaner box is between the left front fender and the inner fender well. If your car were mine I'd drop in a high flow air cleaner (KN) in the present air cleaner box. The incoming air is already cold and you'll never have to worry about water getting into your intake as do many high dollar cold air intakes.
Yes it's known as the Baghdad battery and it was used to electroplate jewelry.
Yes, although its exact purpose remains a mystery. Perhaps a similar device was used on the Ark of the Covenant to electrocute enemies
It sucks that all these cold air intake companies claim you can get a big increase in HP from just installing the intake. You will get a little boost but I don't think it will be that noticeable. There is other mods you are going to have to do to get a noticeable increase in HP. So in short you can't just throw on a cold air intake and hope for a 5 to 10 HP increase because its not going to happen. There is other reasons to put on a cold air intake though. Looks nice, sounds cool, a bit better gas mileage, already added for other mods in the future, ect
cold air intake is a marketing gimmick, as your car has a cold air intake NOW unfortunatly there is no bolt on cold air anything that will add fifty horsepower, same thing with the chips on older cars, no bolt on power, bolt on possible engine problems yes, some newer cars, can be reprogrammed to a point, but the diesel engine has more potential, but there is a trade off, more power, can also reduce the longevity of an engine, so it wears out faster. which means someone rebuilds it sooner. save your money its safer and does more good in your pocket than some greedy executive piece of crap
