Question:

Cold Air Intake. Useful?

I have a '99 miata in Colorado (7250ft MSL). Would adding a cold air intake really do anything for my car, and why does a piece of pipe with a filter on it cost 200$?

Answer:

It won't give you a power increase (unless you free up the other end with a good performance header and exhaust setup). It will give a little sharper throttle response and a nicer sound.
omg the danny guy is another ROOKIE it will give you better gas millage, and more hp too you will gain up to 5 hp the piece of pipe is a high performance pipe, it has heat insulator to make the heat from the engine don't affect the cold air will go inside, with colder and clean trajectory air going to the engine will generate more hp and better millage cheap intakes are made with regular pipe, and it don't have any insulation against the heat, those things make the opposite than good intakes, those things will make you spend more fuel and no hp gain at all
