Question:

cold air intake vs ram air intake ?

got a zx2 escort cold air intake is alot of money 250.00 compared to the ram air 115. dollars . besides hp gains are they about the same thing

Answer:

Short ram intakes are higher mounted and closer to the engine components which allows for built up engine heat to be sucked through your intake. Cold air intakes on the other hand, are mounted lower and further away from heat creating engine components and won't cause heat soaking. This allows consistency of cold air to enter in the engine, and this is essentially where cold air intakes outshine SRI's. However, since a cold air intake is mounted lower it can be prone to water entering the engine through the intake during wet driving conditions. This will cause hydrolock, where the water (which is an incombustible substance) immobilizes the pistons and basically destroys your connecting rods and the entire engine. Hydrolock is pretty rare though, I don't think you'd have to worry about it.
you can use the engine to help brake up until the last second. then squeeze the clutch just before coming to the full stop to avoid stalling. you can squeeze that lever fast of slow anytime. when you squeeze the engine is disengaged, released the engine is engaged. as long as rpm is not too low you can wait until the last second and then pull in the lever. practice makes perfect. recommend motorcycle driving course
You don't have to be slowly pulling it in the entire time you are braking. You can brake before you use the clutch as long as you are going fast enough, and you can have the clutch pulled in all the way while braking before you are at a complete stop. It is all up to what you think is easier and more comfortable!
Cold Air Intake is a device to allow cold air into the engine. It works when the air is from a source much colder than within the engine bay Ram Air Intake id a device to allow air into the engine when the vehicle moves forward. It works when the vehicel is moving forward If the ambient air temperature is at least 5 degrees Celcius below that in the engine bay, you may feel the enhanced performance (do not bother with this if often drive in the afternoon) If you drive above the designed road speed according to the RAI you installed, the improved performance may be felt (don not bother with this if often caught in traffic jams)
cold air intakes are more common on cars who's owners wanted a little more power. theyre easy to install. cold air intakes are more practical for cars that do alot of city driving and such because it involves just lightly modifying the air collector box. ram air intakes are for cars that do alot of high speed driving because the air goes through forced induction into the intake. ram air is for more high performance cars because it wont really make a difference if it doesnt get the right driving conditions.
