Question:

cold air intakes?

I have a 2004 grand prix gtp supercharged and wanted to put a cold air intake on it. But my mechanic said I really wouldn‘t get a noticeable power difference. He said it would do the same thing if I just put a good air filter on. Im just wondering what other people have done and what they think. Thank you.

Answer:

When you drop HCl on dolomite, is doesn't really fizz - EXCEPT when you powder it up. So.A.
If you want to make a difference run the compressed air through a air to air cooler before it goes into the engine. Everyone knows that compressing air produces heat and it would be better to induct cool air into the cylinders so you would get the max expansion when it is lit off. Look at any heavy duty truck and you will see a air to air cooler in front of the radiator, they must know something you car guys don't.
He's right - a supercharger makes cold air intake superfluous. The charge gets compressed the same either way. In fact, for the same reason the air filter makes no difference.
Forget the cold air intake. You can install a smaller pulley on your supercharger and it will increase boost by 1-3 psi.You don't wanna go crazy on boost though because your internal engine parts aren't designed to handle excessive boost.Another poster mentioned a intercooler which will not only increase hp,but will also lower air intake temperatures by 15-40°.A methanol injection kit also works too,but the downside is having to refill its reservoir up with a 50/50 mix of windshield washer fluid and water depending on how much you drive the vehicle.Underdrive crank pulley is a bolt on that will net you 5-7hp.A KN air filter will help the engine draw in air more easily vs struggling to ingest air through a paper filter.Any exhaust upgrades you do will help improve power too.
x ray diffraction. they have different, (yet similar) diffraction patterns. wer
