Question:

Connecting icemaker valve to 1/4" tubing?

I would like to connect a Maytag icemaker valve to 1/4 plastic tubing. This is not for use in an actual ice maker. I've tried using a compression fitting from Home Depot, but it leaks between the tubing and fitting. Using the collar and insert pieces don't make a difference.Any idea on how to securely connect this two parts?

Answer:

I never did like plastic, try copper tubing.
the parts do have to be wrench tightened on the compression fittings. I find if you put a little teflon thread compound on the parts as you assemble them it will prevent any leaks. remember to cut back the tubing you have already tried before because it will be deformed.
The ferrules (the olive shaped pieces) must be plastic if used on plastic tubing, brass ferrules are only good on copper pipes and tubing and those inserts are garbage as they may still not hold and let go over time. Depending on the manufacturer of the tubing you can get proper plastic tee and an adapter that will go to copper and use your tee/valve there. The last thing you need is for the pipes to pull apart when you go away for the weekend as your home insurance may not cover a flood.
Are you sure you're putting the fittings together properly. The ferrule (or collar) is tapered and the smaller side should face away from the nut. Also if it's plastic tubing make sure you use a nylon ferrule and not a brass one.
you have drilled you hole too big for your fitting..instructions will tell you what size hole to drill.
