I don't understand why her cookies stayed thick but mine got all flat and crispyWhat makes cookies stay thick and not get really flat when putin the oven? please help!here's the recipe3 cups flour1 tspbaking soda1 tspsalt1 cup ( 2 sticks) butter, softened3/4 cup granulated sugar3/4 cup packed brown sugar1 tspvanilla extract2 large eggs1 cup chocchipsdirectionspreheat oven 350 degreescombine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowlbeat butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamyadd eggsgradually beat in flour mixturepur in choc chips.scoop on cookie sheet ( 3 rows across 4 down) and bake for 12 minutes

Answer:

First, the cookies are going to spread out because they have a log of fat ingredients - butter, chocolate and eggsOne thing that may help is to put the dough into the freezer for about 15 minutes (make sure you cover the top of the bowl with aluminum foil)That usually firms up the dough a littleIf you've ever bought prefab cookie dough, like slice and bake, you'll notice the dough is fairly firmWhen you are making the mix to begin with if it appears too wet after you have combined all ingredients, you may want to add a little flour (about 1/4 cup) at a time until it thickens a bit moreThe dough should not be soupyAlso, try hand mixing the cookies that way you don't beat the life out of the ingredientsAnother way to avoid the issue of flattening it out is to put it into a square or rectangular glass baking dish and make bar cookiesI find that altogether easier to do since I don't have the time to keep putting dough on cookie sheets and taking baked cookies offAlso, I have very limited kitchen spaceCheck to ensure if it is baked all the way through by inserting a toothpick into the centerIf it comes out clean, it's doneIf not, turn the oven down to about 250 degrees and check it every 7 minutes until it is doneDon't forget it will keep baking a few minutes after it comes out of the oven because of the heat of the baking dishIf it is a little underdone, take it out of the oven and once it cools, I believe you find it is done just right.
If you cover it with foil, you won't really be getting the broiling effect of a crispy outsideIt would be better to just set the oven to 'Bake', rather than 'Broil' Other than that, it sounds good.
