Question:

Copper sulfur and carbon electrodes formula?

I really need help.I'm gonna write a short text (lab report)about something we did in class.Anyways he Said that if you included the chemical formula for what had happened you would get a better grade.I don't know if he meant like the enode and cathode formula or what he meant but if you could just write those two and maybe another formula if you can think of one, that would be great.Anyways what we did was adding copper sulfur to water and then adding carbon electrodes and then we added about 7 volts of electricity. The cathode got a layer off coppar and the anode started bubbeling. So like I Said, please write the chemical formula because my teacher Said that we should look it up onlineThanks for the help :)

Answer:

Copper Sulfate CuSO4 has a blue color. Neither copper Cu nor sulfur S will dissolve in water. CuSO4 + electricity = SO4 - ions plus the metallic copper that plated on to the carbon rod. The bubbles were H2 = hydrogen gas. Hopefully someone will improve on my formula.
