Question:

Could engine oil be in Transmission cooler line?

I checked my engine oil, it leaks but I‘m only 70% sure it‘s oil that leaks, 30% to be trans fluid. But the color is dark and sticky.Car service charged me to change transmission cooler line since they said it‘s broken a bit. But if a transmission cooler line doesn‘t carry Engine oil, how could it be the cause???So, my dears, what‘s in trans cooler line? Could oil be in there?

Answer:

Only transmission fluid should be in the transmission cooler line. Maybe you need to change your transmission fluid. Have you done that yet? I dont see any way that engine oil could be mixing with your transmission fluid. Your transmission cooler lines simply run from your transmission to your radiator. Transmission fluid runs through them and is cooled down by the radiator.
Not likely unless some one actually put oil in your trans. It can get pretty nasty looking if its old and never been changed. Next time it would be helpful if you identify the year and make of your vehicle.
You have an automatic transmission. Did you ever wonder how it worked? Somewhat similar to water in a tub. It is still until you stick your hand in it and make it go in a circular rotation. Your hand is the engine. the water in the tub is the automatic transmission. When the transmission rotates then the driveshaft rotates which rotates the tires and you move. But in an automatic transmission they don't use water, they use automatic transmission fluid which is an oil. A different oil than engine oil, but an oil nonetheless. So a crack in the line is a reason for the transmission fluid(which is oily) to leak out. now you know
